The Herefordshire & Worcestershire (HW) Medicines and Prescribing Sub-Committee (MPC) is a strategic group of health care representatives across Herefordshire and Worcestershire Integrated Care System (ICS) operating in a partnership capacity. It is a sub-committee of the Strategic Commissioning Committee (SCC) and derives its delegated responsibilities from that committee.

The aim of the MPC is to:

  • Ensure that use of medicines seek to improve the health outcomes for the ICS population and reduce inequalities.
  • Ensure safe, insight informed, high quality, fair, equitable, sustainable, cost effective and evidence-based approach to the use of medicines across the H&W ICS health economy, that minimises variation in outcomes.
  • Make recommendations to commissioners and providers about the use of medicines following consensus agreement by stakeholders informed by systematic evidence evaluation and consultation.

The MPC involves representatives from provider trusts (Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care Trust, Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, Wye Valley NHS Trust), Primary Care Networks (general practitioners) and Local Authorities, and considers proposals that have been developed in partnership with these organisations.
